There are a number of amenities available in and around the village.

Village Hall

The Village Hall is a Selwyn District Council property, but is managed on behalf of the council by the CHCA.

Facilities at the hall include a fully equipped kitchen (with cutlery/crockery/glasses to cater for approx 35), large 6-burner BBQ (please provide your own gas bottle), log burner and audio visual equipment (including DVD player, Sky dish/receiver, etc). The hall is available for use by groups of up to 50 people.

Public vs Private bookings

The hall can be booked by residents for either public or private events.

Events organised by residents which are open to any other resident of the village to attend do not normally attract a rental charge.

Private events may be booked by CHCA members at the following rates:

  • $50 per day until 5pm
  • $70 per night from 5pm to 1am
  • $100 per full day until 1am

Private bookings by non-CHCA members incur an approx. 25% extra charge (rates being $65, $90 & $125 respectively). A $100 cleaning/repair bond will be charged for non-CHCA members; this will be returned in full when the hall is left clean & tidy and in good condition.

Currently bookings are handled by Maree Goldring on 03 318 9189 or you can complete a Hall Booking Form and mail it in.

Climbing wall

Use of the indoor climbing wall at the hall is possible under the supervision of an approved climbing wall supervisor. As of June 2012, the following residents are approved as supervisors:

  • Paul Weber
  • Sonia Mellish
  • Anna Boggis
  • Neil Egan
  • Ian Mann
  • Conor Boyd
  • Ray Goldring

Please contact Ray Goldring on 03 318 9189 for further information, or for training & assessment.

Hall keys

A limited number of keys to the hall are held by various village residents. Possession of hall keys is recorded when these are issued along with information on the responsibilities related to hall key possession. The lock is changed on a regular basis.

Golf Course

The 9-hole golf course across SH73 is available for use by residents, although it is on private land owned by John Reid. Please keep an eye out for the odd small plane or paraglider landing! Koha for it's use are appreciated.

Always popular with the kids! Please ensure that you turn off the tap after use, that the only things to go down the slide are bums (not bikes, skis or sledges!), and please don't pull up the edges of the plastic slide liner.

Tennis court

Petanque court

Ice rink

Please keep free of stones and the like (and please advise children in your care not break the ice or otherwise diminish it's skating service when frozen). A floodlight has been placed to cover the ice-rink, and the switch should be available at the hut near the petanque court.
